The Gaming industy as a career

What is it about the gaming industry that makes everybody (Most people, let’s be honest) want to be a part of in some way? All the different directions people can make their way into it by; competitive gaming, blogs (ah hem), playing regularly, game testing.. a few on the top of my head.

Is it the fact people think it’s an easy job? Maybe they think they are the best clan out there and want to try make a bit of money? For me personally, it’s to have a job that I would enjoy day in, day out.  Something exciting that a lot of the older generation don’t understand.. looking at the oldies here. From the great words of ‘Confucius’, “Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”.
A great quote to live by, definitely one to remember.

Also, it’s something different, something unique, something that if you’re passionate enough about it can never get boring. (Touch wood). I feel like a philosopher here.
Basically, the gaming industry, whichever route you choose to follow to get there, if that’s what you want to do, that’s something you should keep, especially with the recession hitting everybody’s  career. No time to go into modern life though now, let’s put this post to an end..

Backlogging Games!

Just recently I started playing Halo Wars, a game I own that I have less than 100 gamerpoints on which is something I can’t stand. That takes me back to when I wanted to hit my 10,000Gs milestone. I took it upon myself and went through each of my cousins and friends just to get as much as I could in the shortest time possible, sad, am I right? However, that was back when I didn’t care about completion percentage.

Anyway back to the topic at hand. Halo Wars. I’m sat here asking myself “what did I miss out on?” I’m getting really stuck into it and will end up getting about 800G whilst also enjoying the game. Same goes for a few others I’ve played such as Resident Evil 5, Fallout 3 and in a way Mass Effect (I Only did the main storyline achievements) What I am getting at is, if you’ve got a huuuge backlog of games to catch up on, instead of thinking of it as a drag. Just Do It! Don’t think twice and at least pick a game with a decent storyline to make it all the more bearable.

PS. Try Prince of Persia, that’s another I had a little catch up on!

Kinect achievments!

I don't own a Kinect myself (yet!) but these achievements look a bit challenging! Keeping fit and getting achievements, sounds amazing to me. I mean come on, look at these from EA Sports Active 2:

Golden Gloves    25G
Throw 1000 punches in Cardio Boxing

Pumping Iron      20G
Perform 1000G arm curls

These kind of achievements will have the majority of us looking like Marcus Pheonix. A godsend for the slightly over weight Gamerscore addicts! Anyways, this looks like it's floating my boat completely, can't wait to get it bought and get stuck in!

Fixing up Gamerscore completion

For the average xbox LIVE gamer.. an achievement is something of levelling up or on a kills to death basis.. a personal achievement that warms up there inside. For many of GSAA (GamerScore Addicts Anonymous, http://bit.ly/9Jioma and of course a lot more of the xbox LIVE community) This same thrill comes from that little bubble and a little pop from an achievement. My rant today is actually about the completion percentage of games and how it affects your overall score in the long run.

Personally, I'm on 60k gamerscore with about 30,000 coming from completed games (With or without DLC) and really muzzled how I have managed around 10-20,000 from 100G games or less. That's why I signed up with TA (TrueAchievements) to help me boost these games back up. I'm not let down by my score, as I feel a lot better about having what I have than looking on x360a and seeing people with "Completed Retail Games: 100%" and them having about 15,000 with 15 completed games. That's not the same thing, there enjoyment level must be wayyy low. For the rest of the community though, what's you're opinion on getting your percentage up, enjoyable? or a drag?

Veteraaaaaaaggggghhhhhhnnnn!!! Ohwait..

As with the rest of the series the Veteran difficulty, for the ones interested in achievements. (Like myself) is of course, one of the most frustrating things to come against. Look at enemy wrong and he’ll have you flinging your pad about the room. Of course I’ve started it on Veteran and this is probably the most difficult one I’ve played from the series, up to now.
However, the AI in this game seem to be able to put you down by sticking their gun round a corner and Having a 1,000,0405,04050,040504504502 percentage boost in accuracy..Frustration.
Again, it’s going to piss us right off but there’s always a way round.

Not quite as bad in Blops huh?

Ok, so after finishing the campaign on Veteran... It's nowhere near as bad as it came out above.. Yeah there's a few parts are plain stupid and don't have to make as bad as they have but hey, it isn't going to stop me going for that 1000G.

Advice from myself, if you’re running in circles on Veteran and you’re stuck at a certain point, 50+ tries and dying within seconds, put the pad down and have a browse on 4chan or take a break. You’re not going to do it. After half an hour, come back, composed and just take your time, find a way around, try different routes. It will come to you. Just don’t put your fist through the TV, it’s not worth it!

Another thing to finish off the Veteran chat. I was rather impressed with the fact that there hasn’t been many grenades thrown which is a bonus, which is making it unique to Modern Warfare and World at War. Those were a right kick in the nuts.. again, the dedication kicked in! (Not enough for me to get the two 0G prestige cheevos but meh, online was shit!)

Thanks for reading my Blog on the subject and please keep checking back!
